Who We Are

Lucinda Williams

Dairy operator in Hatfield, Massachusetts

I have been in the dairy industry for 22 years. Along with my husband and seven children, we mark the 13th generation on a farm that has been in the family since 1661 (before Hatfield was even a town!).

My husband and I take great pride in the work we do for this industry. We believe we are just “passing through” and while we are on this land it’s our job to maintain it to the utmost conditions and take responsibly for upholding good stewardship. While we are on this land it is our responsibility to help feed the United States and protect agriculture. In addition, we love our animals and we treat them with care and kindness. It is important that we raise healthy cattle in order to produce a top-quality product.

We are good stewards of the land by following all regulations. Because we live on a small dairy operation, we also must be mindful of the land crunch and how to preserve land for agriculture. I participate in a program that helps preserve land that is rich in top soil, which is only suitable for farming and at risk of having large buildings being built on it.

I feel that it’s critical to educate the public and make them more aware of what this industry is all about. As a mother I especially see the importance of educating our youth – it is absolutely vital that they understand this industry and the healthy, wholesome and nutritious products that the hardworking producers sell to consumers.
